Messages From Holocaust Survivors
The montage open of this piece shows details of real artifacts donated to the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum. At the same time, voices of survivors are overlapping one another with descriptions of the articles they donated. We wanted to give a sense of the evidence building and layering, while at the same time maintaining the intimacy and importance of each item. The stories which follow describe the ways in which specific artifacts are meaningful to the survivors who donated them. This is part of USHMM's effort to secure the history of the Holocaust by preserving the evidence.
